‘The Five’ is an exhibition of five New Zealand women working in glass. Brought to the gallery in conjunction with GAINZ (Glass Art in New Zealand), the five participating artists will showcase 5 works each. Sold works will be replaced with new works as the exhibition progresses. This talented group of women come from various locations around the country and each brings their own distinctive approach to glass making.
Featuring the following artists:
Evelyn Dunstan: Evelyn is a sculptural artist based in Auckland whose focus shifted to glass in 2002. Her predominant technique is lost wax kiln casting, achieving complex & intricate detail with colour placement control. Evelyn is a highly awarded artist and has been teaching her unique approach to casting in New Zealand from 2006 and overseas since 2011, in Italy, Istanbul, Australia, and USA. She has exhibited widely and her works are held in both private and public collections around the world.
Carmen Simmonds: Carmen is a professional glass artist and tutor based in Whanganui. Her work predominantly employs the lost wax casting technique and she is widely known for her sculptural dress forms. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Masters in Art and Design. 
Karin Barr: German born Karin is based in the Waikato and has worked with various sculptural forms. She first studied the art of glass casting in 2008 and has since attended national and international master classes to extend her knowledge in glassmaking. Her work has been acquired into the Art House Trust and other national and international private collections.
Kate Cornwall: Kate has studied under many of NZ’s world class glass artists, including David Traub, Evelyn Dunstan, Elizabeth McClure, as well as several international visiting artists. Kate engages with a mixture of mediums and techniques to create her contemporary glass hat pins, in the hope of sparking memories and discussion of when hat pins were an integral part of women’s fashion.
Heather Kremen: Heather first began glass blowing in the USA in 2007 and went on to study various glass techniques through courses in the USA and a year in Tokyo. She is known for her mastery over a broad range of glass techniques and her ability to combine them seamlessly into complexly patterned work. She loves the round forms made from blown glass and the simple elegance of how the glass flows in the furnace. While keeping her forms simple, Heather creates intricate patterns within the glass using the techniques of fusing, flameworking and casting. Heather returned to NZ in 2017 and now runs Amokura Glass in Rotorua; a glass making studio and gallery.
